Higher Education
Southside Virginia Community College
Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) has two main campuses located near Mecklenburg County: Alberta (Brunswick County) and Keysville (Charlotte County). In addition, SVCC offers a wide variety of classes through its satellite locations, including South Hill and Chase City.
SVCC offers Associate Degrees in university parallel, technical, vocational and community service programs and partners with all state-affiliated universities for easy transfer into Bachelor’s Degree programs.
The school also works closely with the business community to ensure a pipeline of highly trained workers. In 2016, SVCC launched the Power Line Worker Program, the first of its kind in Virginia. The program was founded by a public-private partnership between Virginia’s electric co-ops, Southside Virginia Community College, the Virginia Community College System, Virginia Foundation for Community College Education, Rural Virginia Horseshoe Initiative and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The motivation to establish the program grew from the demand for power line workers throughout Virginia and the nation.
