South Hill welcomes NextStep founder on cross-country wheelchair "Ride For Paralysis"

NextStep founder on crosscountry wheelchair ride

Janne Kouri, President and founder of NextStep, is on a 3,000 mile wheelchair journey to raise funds and awareness for the six million individuals and wounded service members living with paralysis in the U.S.

On May 11, 2019 the Town of South Hill will be hosting an event at 2 p.m. open to the community at the new All Inclusive Playground at Centennial Park as part of welcoming Janne to South Hill.

Whittle’s Mill Dam named to National Register of Historic Places

Whittles Mill Dam is on the National Register of Historic Places and the site of Max Bagley Crowder Memorial Park

After over 250 years of existence, the Whittle’s Mill Dam has been named to the National Register of Historic Places. South Hill Town Councilor Lisa Jordan pointed out that the structure has always been useful, serving families, commercial interests, and the town over the years. 

“It’s significant in the fact that it sort of tells the all encompassing story of the stages of development of a rural area, and particularly of Southside Virginia, and I think that’s what makes it special, honestly,” Jordan said.
